POSITION PURPOSE:
The Network Engineer ensures the stability and integrity of the in-house data, security systems and wireless network services. They will be required to participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of all hardware, software, and communications links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate manner.

The position requires a bachelor's degree (or commensurate education) and at least 4 years of experience in data communications or in a related area

NATURE & SCOPE
This position reports to the Telecommunications Manager and  the Network Architect.

·         2 years in the planning, installation and operation of moderately complex data communications systems.
·         Implementation, support, and maintenance of data communications networks on a company-wide basis. Implementation, support, and maintenance of Wireless Network Infrastructure on a company-wide basis.
·         Support and maintenance of Network Infrastructure and all associated devices (Firewalls, Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System (MARS), Wireless Access, VPN Access, SNMP (HP OpenView and such) etc).
·         Diagnosis and resolution of complex network operating problems with technical assistance from vendors, common carriers and technical IT management
·         Analysis of the performance of the data communication networks, including usage and load patterns and system response times.
·         Monitoring of the security systems and maintain optimum security features throughout network systems.
·         Participation in topology design for new or modified systems, including the analysis of parameters such as recovery capabilities, automated diagnostics, redundancy capabilities, etc
·         2487 On call rotation

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
·         Advanced knowledge of telecommunications principles, wireless and data services and applications.
·         Intermediate knowledge of networking principles and equipment.
·         Advanced knowledge of Cisco hardware platforms.
·         Intermediate knowledge of IOS, ACL’s, Class maps, Policy Maps for QOS and COS in both WAN and LAN infrastructure with respect to network and traffic classification and analysis.
·         Intermediate Advanced knowledge of MPLS technology
·         Intermediate knowledge of network security technologies to include Intrusion Detection IDS/IPS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems and their associated devices.
·         Intermediate knowledge in Cisco Security Systems to include technologies such as Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System (MARS) and Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) systems.
·         Advanced knowledge in maintenance and support of Wireless Network technology and infrastructure
·         Basic knowledge of Network Monitoring tools (Netscout, HP OpenView)
·         Intermediate knowledge of structured cabling.
·         Must be able to understand and apply fundamental concepts when supporting wireless devices such as cell phones, Blackberry and calling card
·         Advanced knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems
·         Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
·         Basic knowledge of Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and their associated applications (RSLogix 5/500/5000) and how they integrate into a common office network infrastructure would be an advantage.
